DODGEBALL

ROUND ONE, START!

It's time to get this show on the road. You all know how dodgeball works, right? If not here's a wiki about the sport. Since we can't actually play dodgeball we're going to instead apply some of the concepts of the game to this round. Since I'm the referee I'll be providing you with the dodgeballs (resources) to use in this game. You will use them (resources + you = icon) to hit your opponents and eliminate (aka win your bracket via voting) them. I hope this makes sense! I feel like I'm making a mess of things.

For this challenge I'm providing you with 5 dodgeballs (resources) and you will use them in whatever way you want to make your icon. You can make your icon with one or all five of these resources. You are not required to use them all but you must use at least one of them. The stronger your icon is the better chance you have of continuing to the next challenge so choose wisely. The following are the five resources:

DODGEBALL #1: TECHNICAL

First option is a technical one. The technical theme is no eyes. If you choose this option you'll need to cover your subject's eyes in whatever way you want to. You can choose to use a close crop, place text or a texture over their eyes, pick an image where the subject's facing backward, crop in a way you can't see their eyes, etc. The possibilities are endless. Use your imagination on the 4th one. The doctor is eyeless.

DODGEBALL #2: INSPIRATION

If you choose this option you'll need to use these icons as inspiration. How you get inspired by them is totally up to you. You can choose to be inspired by little things each icon has or just the icon in general. This is a free-for-all.

DODGEBALL #3: TEXTURES

If you choose this resource option you'll need to use any of the following 2 (or more) textures in your icon. How you use them is entirely up to you. If it's hard to tell how you used them please do tell me. Right click the 4th texture for its full-size.

DODGEBALL #4: FONT

If you choose this option you'll need to use the font below in your icon. How you use it is entirely up to you but all I ask is that it's visible. CLick the font to take you to the font's download page. Get creative!

DODGEBALL #5: COLOR PALETTE

For the last resource we have this color palette. If you use this option you'll need to use the following colors in your icon in whatever way you see fit. I do ask that you use at least 3 of the 5 colors provided if you do decide to use it.

ORIGINAL RULES - for reference only

· Submit ONE icon. Icons must be brand new.
· Must fit LJ requirements (.png/.jpg/.gif, under 40kb, 100x100, etc.)
· Blending is allowed, as is animation.
· Stock images, brushes, text, coloring, textures, etc, are all allowed.
· Keep icons SFW (safe for work), no hentai or suggestive ecchi.

Round-specific rules:

· You can make your icon with one or all five of these resources.
· You are not required to use them all but you must use at least one of them.
· Of the textures, you have to use at least two (in the same icon)
· Of the color palette, you have to use at least three colors (in the same icon)

NEW RETRO_ICONTEST RULES - mandatory

The comm was based on a competition bracket, and everyone was only allowed to make one icon. You can ignore everything to do with this. There is no voting, no competition, no points, no disqualification, no limit to the number of icons.

Please follow the "Round-specific rules". You can combine the resources however you like.

-> you may enter as many icons as you like. minimum 1 icon. no maximum limit.
-> submit your icons as a new entry into the community. if there are more than five, put the rest under a cut or a link to your unlocked journal post. tag your post with round number and your username (or ask me to tag it for you).
-> PLEASE submit the URLs along with your icons. I'll only put the first five per person into the roundup post. Either you only list five, or I'll take the first five.
-> make an effort to leave positive feedback on other participants' posts. <3

This comm generally runs from mid-month to mid-month every month, always ending on Fridays. There is no voting. I will make a roundup post containing up to 5 icons per person after every challenge.
