With thanks to [personal profile] pitchblackrenegade for the original post.

Anyone who comments through May 15th will receive one line from a poem I love.

Will it inspire you? Will it be someone familiar to you, or someone you've never heard of? Just drop a comment — no prompt needed, unless you feel compelled to give me one to find a line for.

Closing some tabs.

goodbyebird: Sarah Connor Chronicles: John's hand on Cameron's face while she's booted down. (SCC I saw everything)
[personal profile] goodbyebird
I joined in on lowering the urn for my grandmother yesterday. Unbeknownst to me, I had signed up for a full day of eating and talking at my aunt's. So now my brain is proper parboiled and I've reverted to couch potato. Making this the perfect time for: a real mishmash of links to clear out my tabs.
eta wipe-out and my period got together on crushing me and here I am, 2 days running, glued to said couch. (the weather is so nice outside, ugh *glares balefully at state of self*)

+ [personal profile] renay posted her 50th Intergalactic Mixtape 🥳 So many great links to find within, highly recommend. There's a reason it got nominated for the Hugos.

+ Why Angine de Poitrine's viral microtonal math rock KEXP session, Ireland's permanent basic income for artists, and Albert Einstein are three sides of the same human triangle.

+ Massive Attack / Tom Waits - Boots on the Ground. Really powerful music video.
Film created by Massive Attack (working with US photo artist thefinaleye). This montage work portrays a momentous American epoch that is yet to be named, and comes in the aftermath of the largest public protests in American history - focused on opposition to ICE raids, the militarisation of domestic forces, and state authoritarianism.

And Bette Midler did ALL YOU FASCISTS (Bound to Lose) <3

+ The passive income trap that ate a generation.
Where it went wrong is that the whole movement confused "build a good product that scales" with "build any mechanism that extracts money without you being involved." I don't think that confusion was accidental. I think the confusion was the point. Because if you're teaching people to build real businesses, you have to sit with hard, boring questions about whether anyone actually wants what you're selling. But if you're teaching people to build "passive income streams" you can skip all of that and go straight to the fun tactical shit. How to run Facebook ads, how to set up a Shopify store in a weekend, how to write email sequences that manipulate people into buying things they don't need.

+ What I learned about billionaires at Jeff Bezos' private retreat.

+ Italy Suspends Defense Agreement With Israel Amid Mounting Public Pressure to Cut Ties.

+ A French city cut its marine pollution — and its seagrass bounced back.

+ NASA has an official Artemis II gallery. Go look at the pretty pretty spaaaace.

+ Japan’s Zine Boom: Self-Made Magazines Take Off in the AI Era.
Japan’s current zine boom is a bit of a divergence from these subcultural scenes of the past. Rather than zines being the extension of some other cultural practice, zines themselves are the focal point of the new movement. Zine content spans all manner of genres and interests: a kid’s self-published children’s books, a young mother’s child-rearing tips, an old couple’s poetry chapbook.

Giving up on the rest of the tabs to see if I can make it into the bath 🤞

For your consideration.

Tomorrow is BandCamp Friday, meaning the artist gets a lot more of the money when you purchase their music. So I figured I'd recommend some recent-ish albums for y'all to check out.

War Child Records - Help 2.
Insupport of War Child's vital work delivering immediate aid, education, specialist mental health support, and protection to children affected by conflict around the world.

HELP(2) features an incredible line-up of contributors including Anna Calvi, Arctic Monkeys, Arlo Parks, Arooj Aftab, Bat For Lashes, Beabadoobee, Beck, Beth Gibbons, Big Thief, Black Country, New Road, Cameron Winter, Damon Albarn, Depeche Mode, Dove Ellis, Ellie Rowsell, English Teacher, Ezra Collective, Foals, Fontaines D.C., Graham Coxon, Greentea Peng, Grian Chatten, Kae Tempest, King Krule, Nilüfer Yanya, Olivia Rodrigo, Pulp, Sampha, The Last Dinner Party, Wet Leg and Young Fathers.

My World Is The Sun - Dominique Fils-Aimé
I've been listening to this a bunch the last couple of days. Soothing and emotional. Most likely my purchase tomorrow.

Anjimile - You're Free To Go
A songwriter that's new to me. Introspective, queer, aching, joyful. Reminds me it's been way too long since I've listened to Tracy Chapman.

Fantasy Life - Begonia
A voice I fell in love with the second I heard it. Soft, playful, great lyrics.

Altogether Stranger - Lael Neale
Indie pop tinged with strangeness in the best way.

The Former Site of - The New Pornographers
Complex arrangements and playfulness, but with a somber backbone.

And while I have you here I'm going to be a big sneaky cheeky and solicit your help in choosing my song for April. I have three I just can't decide between. Be my tie breakers? 🙏

Reading
  • Just fic this week. Been reading a lot of JunDylan after stalling out on some VegasPete fics.
Watching
  • The roommate and I watched an episode of Running Man Thailand. So fucking funny, as usual.
  • The roommate and I finished rewatching We Are. Love this show so much!! PondPhuwin are everything, and Pond especially is adorable in this role. Kind of funny compared to his current role as Thee tbh.
  • The roommate, best friend, and I watched the latest episode of Only Friends: Dream On. The reactions to the ArnoldDean video were kind of overblown, but I think it'll all shake out pretty quickly so it's whatever. RomeRaffy having some cute moments, but I'm worried for the next ep...
  • The roommate, best friend, and I watched the latest episode of Love Upon a Time. Love that we're getting bits of Klao's past but also it's not quite fitting together yet.
  • The roommate, best friend, and I started watching Magic Move. It's cute so far! Very curious how the fake-childhood-besties-to-lovers storyline will go.
  • The roommate, best friend, and I started watching Love of Silom. Enjoying it a lot so far even if it's different than I was thinking it would be from the trailer! Poom as Wayu is soooo pretty, wow.
  • The roommate, best friend, and I started watching Shine. It's fine so far? Idk, Be on Cloud productions are a super mixed bag for me, so we'll see. I would appreciate them getting some lighting though.
  • The roommate and I went to see The Silence of the Lambs in theaters for the 35th anniversary. It was fun! I've only seen it once before and didn't remember much, so it was cool to see on the big screen.
Listening
  • I've been getting more into ATLAS lately, so I've been watching a lot of their music videos. Still a lot of PERSES and LYKN happening as well. There's been a lot of new music out lately!
Writing
  • I finally finished the ArmTae fic I've been working on for the past two months!! Almost 10k, which is pretty wow for me. Very happy to have finished it though :)
Learning
  • Nothing.

Not Yet.

ETA: I know one of them got eaten by DW when I tried to post... It's too late to figure that out, so I will try to fix it tomorrow. Fixed!

I've been brainstorming all day what to do for my day's post, struggling to come up with something good, and I finally decided to just go with a top 5 post. It's easy! It's versatile! It's themed!

Now, I know most ppl looking at this post are not going to have any idea what it is from the title. So, some explanations are in order.

Polyamships: Days 1

Apr. 27th, 2026 01:01 pm
scifirenegade: (lancelot)
[personal profile] scifirenegade
Life decided some (internet) things were not meant to be (ficathons becoming drabblethons), but it could be worse IRL.

In honour of [community profile] 3weeks4dreamwidth, [community profile] polyamships is doing a little event.

25 April: What is/are your current favorite poly ship/s? Want to share a little bit about them with us?

At the moment, I'm spinning

  • Arthur/Guinevere/Lancelot (The Adventures of Sir Lancelot)
It's honestly amazing a show for children from the 50s manages to handle the Guinevere/Lancelot side of things in a thoughtful manner, while also not going all the way with it because... they both love their King so much. Basically, Guinevere and Arthur have two hands and they can use them, godammit!

  • Didier/Juliette/The Marquis (Ich und die Kaiserin)
Niche af. I like to think, now that Didier has ascended to conductor (and possibly can show off his own compositions), he can get an assistant, and therefore more time! And he can join Juliette and her dummy Marquis on it.

  • Buffo/Erik/Julie/Mark (The Last Performance)
    So.
Erik loves Julie, who loves Mark. But Buffo loves Julie (and Erik, apparently, albeit in a more love-hate way). Erik has one of those hate relationships with Buffo (that we can fix ;) ) and is way to handsy with Mark. Got it?
Very messy, very angsty, and everything could be fixed if they all kissed.

  • George/Gilda/Tom (Design for Living)
Rewatched recently and I'm back to spinning them in my brain. Notable for being a movie (originally a play, the London version had Anton Walbrook!) from the 1930s that has the girl getting both boys. The chemistry is just off the charts.

  • Felicitas/Leo/Ulrich (Flesh and the Devil)
Another movie in which its central relationships could be fixed if they all kissed. Felicitas has two hands and Leo and Ulrich should just kiss already.

(Shoutouts to Rick/Ilsa/Victor of Casablanca fame and C.K. Dexter Haven/Mike/Elizabeth/Tracy of The Philadelphia Story fame!)

(Shall always call C.K Dezter Haven as C.K. Dexter Haven because that's how it should be >:3 )

If you would have told me any point within the last few years that I would be listening to a country artist, I would have probably laughed at you - I mean I like certain songs and usually limited to only a few artists but I started listening to Queer Love mix list via Spotify and I was like, why is Elvis on this list? Come to find out the song was Roses Are Falling by Orville Peck, which was definitely interesting to find out - to me, he sounds so much like him. Anyway I definitely suggest checking him out if you didn't know he existed like I did.

But to be fair, I haven't really listened to much outside of radio while I'm in the car or I usually do iheartradio artist playlists of usually of Mary Lambert, Hayley Kiyoko, Olivia Rodrigo, Maddie Zahm, Zolita, Fletcher, and Renee Rapp - the last six I found via Mary Lambert's "playlist/channel". If you're unfamiliar with iheartradio, if you have the free version (aka ad filled), you get similar artists whenever you click on an artist. Or at least familiar enough I guess. Chappell Roan I think I also found via that playlist, but also she kind of blew up a year or two ago. Pink Pony Club of course is I think my favorite song.

Discovered a whole bunch of new musicians that way a few years ago. I fell in love with Mary Lambert's version of Jessie's Girl and quickly loved her other work. Now for Maddie Zahm I think one of the first ones of her work was Fat Funny Friend or If It's Not God which I adore. I think Renee Rapp got me with her In The Kitchen and Pretty Girls.  Zolita I fell in love with her music with Somebody I F*cked Once. With Fletcher I believe it was Girls Girls Girls. Olivia Rodrigo I think was Vampire. Hayley Kiyoko with Girls Like Girls.

I think through listening/watching the official music videos of the above singers, I discovered Cloudy June (Girls Like You) and many more like Morgan Wade (Fall In Love With Me), Ryan Cassata (Daughter), Rosemary Joaquin (Erika), Devon Cole (Hey Cowboy, although W.I.T.C.H. was my original favorite),, Xana (19), girli (More Than A Friend), G Flip (GAY 4 ME), King Mala ("she calls me daddy"), Maggie Lindemann (she knows it), Hollie Col (Unholy), Aston (For the Girls & Mama Didn't Raise No), Sarah Barrios (Thank God You Introduced Me To Your Sister), Pale Waves (She's My Religion), Chloe Adams (Dirty Thoughts), Halsey (Strangers), Alexia Evellyn (Savage Daughters), Chinchilla (Little Girl Gone), Iluka (Cry Evil!), Kacey Musgraves (Dry Spell), Paris Paloma (labour), Em Beihold (Brutus), Ella Red (He Asked For It), Kiki Rockwell (Burn Your Village), Viking Barbie (Creep), SkyDxddy (Medusa), Peggy (Talk Shit! | Feminine Rage), Ashley Ryan (Hush Little Baby), Lauren Sanderson (Come Say Sum), Sofia  Isella (Everybody Supports Women), Jax (i choose violence) and Matilda (Apologize). Also really liked Jeangu Macrooy's Independent Girls & Nasty Evil Gays (which with that title, kinda gave me pause, but then you hear the lyrics and it makes sense and not actually anti-queer)

I think the last "new" country songs (not sure how "country" they are though) I've enjoyed over the last few years are: Tanner Adell's Buckle Bunny and Lil Nas X (Old Town Road). Also really enjoyed Ashley McBryde's What If We Don't.

Anyway, I don't normally talk about music on my journal, but I wanted to do something for [community profile] 3weeks4dreamwidth & since I've been doomscolling too much on instagram lately and the world is just shit and I haven't felt like writing - so I figured I'd talk about some music I've enjoyed over the last few years - and yes most of them are queer related, so if anyone has any favorites or recs, please suggest away! And let me know if I introduced you to anyone new! Or if you also like them.

I watched this wholesome movie Samantha:An American girl holiday a few weeks ago and have been wanting to get a chance to icon it. The current round at fandom10in30 was all about outdoors so this seemed like a great choice. I was playing around with textures and loved the first icon so much that I ended up using the same effects in all the icons!:D
