It's been a while, exactly 40 rounds, since our last calendarsquares challenge. I know it's not at the top of the polls, but I love it so much. Indulge me?

With a rush, September banishes summer and brings everything back to business. It's this burst of energy that brings in autumn.



This month is a color combination challenge.
Please use both of the featured colors in your icon submissions!

ORIGINAL RULES - for reference only

■ You may submit up to four (4) icons maximum.
■ Icons must prominently feature the color of the month, both colors from a combo challenge, or at least two colors from a palette challenge. As long as your use of the colors is clear, anything goes.
■ All fandoms are welcomed from animation, comic books, musicians, movies, stock phography, to video games, anime, books, and anything else. Just be sure to use official artwork only (no fan art).
■ You may share your icons outside of this community whenever you wish. Even if they have not been revealed on the calendar yet.
■ If your birthday is this month, please be sure to include it in your submission! We'll be sure to give you a shoutout on your special day.
■ If you have any questions, please be sure to ask. I'm always happy to help.

NEW RETRO_ICONTEST RULES - mandatory


Consider the original challenge rules and try to stick to them in spirit.

This round, you must follow the color rule (bolded).

■ this month we'll fill a calendar, i.e. 30 days, since the challenge is called September. i will not fill the calendar daily like cool_spectrum used to do, i'll only post the roundup post in calendar format this time - after the challenge has ended. if your birthday is in September, and you mention this in your post, one of your icons will be used for that day.
■ you may enter as many icons as you like. minimum 1 icon.

■ PLEASE don't stop at 4 icons! the original limit of 4 icons per person means we'll need eight participants to fill the calendar. if you want to make more than four, please do! we didn't manage to fill the calendar last time, maybe we'll make it this time?

■ i'll fill up the calendar round-robin-style from all participants, and add leftover icons as alts to the end. everyone will be represented in the calendar, and if we should end up with more than 30 icons, that's not a problem! (i just hope we won't end up with less again. i'm counting on you! <3)
■ submit your icons as a new entry into the community. if there are more than three, put the rest under a cut or a link to your unlocked journal post. tag your post with round number and your username (or ask me to tag it for you).
■ submit the URLs along with your icons. i'll only put the first five per person into the roundup post (unless we need more to fill the calendar, then i'll use more).
■ make an effort to leave positive feedback on other participants' posts. <3

■ In fact, since we were missing nine icons last time, we could try to fill it up this time? If you want to submit some for the previous calendar, in addition to the current one, you are welcome to do so! The palette is here: round #03. Just post them along with your icons for round 43 and I'll put them into the round 03 calendar.

We're two weeks into our current round #42, and I hope everyone enjoys it so far! Three people have already posted some icons for the shows they're rewatching: Amidst a Snowstorm of Love, Once Upon a Time, and Gossip Girl.

You can pick up to two fandoms and post more than once, if you like. There are still three weeks left to join, the deadline is on Friday, September 18.

Since it's Summer and most people have some kind of vacation time around now - and it's too hot to go outside anyway ;) - I thought maybe it's time to rewatch some old favorites! I hope you enjoy this round. This is one of our longer ones: you have five weeks to do your rewatch and make your icons.

This challenge was originally posted to watchnicon in September 2014 here. The example icons for "no eyes" seem to have been missing from the start. I provided some of my choosing. One of the youtube videos has gone private, I have no idea what it was, so again I provided one of my choosing. Guess which one. ;)

Most important excerpt from the rules:

You may claim up to 2 fandoms to rewatch.
Claims can include:

• TV or web series (eg. Gilmore Girls, Band of Brothers, The Lizzie Bennet Diaries).
• TV seasons (eg. Supernatural Season 4, Sex & the City Season 1).
• TV season ranges (eg. Supernatural seasons 4-8, Doctor Who seasons 2-4).
• Film series (eg. Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Avengers-Verse, The Red Curtain Trilogy).
• Comic arcs.
• Video Games - Franchises (where you play and icon each game - like Final Fantasy) or games that have a heavy narrative element, where each phase/world represents an episode. Official images and/or screencaps can be used to icon.

The episodes/parts of your claim should be iconed in order.
Icons should be posted directly to the community.
You can enter a challenge as many times as you want, and post as often as you like.

Guidelines for icon posts are:

• 1-3 icons per tv episode.
• 1-2 icons per web series episode.
• 2-6 icons per movie.
• 1-4 icons per comic book.
• 1-3 icons per phase in a video game or 2-6 per game in a franchise.

A post can include as many or few icons or episodes as you like.

The main point of watchnicon was that you have to pick one specific fandom (or two), and rewatch episodes/movies from it in order, from a starting point you pick, and then post icons for each one. Discussion of the rewatched material is encouraged!

-> you must enter at least one icon.
-> If you enter more than one icon, you have to enter them in episode/part order. 1 icon per episode minimum (no maximum). That means you can't skip any eps!
-> There is no official claiming here - you only have to be accountable to yourself.
-> You don't have to claim whole shows, you can claim parts of them, e.g. Doctor Who season 13, or Guardian eps 20-30. You don't have to finish everything in four weeks, but you have to start at the beginning and go in order. So if you only manage Guardian eps 20-22, that's perfectly fine, and you can post what you have!
-> You are allowed to post more than once this round, e.g. if you want to watch, then icon, then watch, then icon, etc. Maximum number of posts is five (one per week).
-> submit your icons as a new entry into the community. if there are more than five, put the rest under a cut or a link to your unlocked journal post. tag your post with round number and your username (or ask me to tag it for you).
