Round 02: Casting Call

Oi, this was a difficult challenge! It required thinking about which canons (books, in my case) to icon, and then finding the right actors for the parts, and then manipping them to look the way I wanted them to. Phew. I hope I found good ones!

#1 A cast suggestions for the Broken Earth trilogy by N.K. Jemisin

I concentrated on my otp for this book series:

And then, because I just always love iconing Zhu Yilong (and seeing him act), I went about it from the other direction and came up with

Those don't technically make sense, because Zhu Yilong doesn't speak English. Ignore this minor impediment ;), and enjoy the thought experiment:

a) James Bond - he can look good in a suit, but he can also fight



b) Marty McFly - he has comedic timing, and he can also play the guitar

The Taika one actually was the easiest of the lot, because he just *looks like that* on OFMD. The others involved more manipping. :D

I'm not familiar with either of the book canons but I love the icons, especially the last green-sparkly-eyed one. :D (In the others I can't even tell if they were manipped, but I'm assuming they were, so that's kinda really cool when it's invisible!)

And yay for the 'cast Zhu Yilong in everything' series. :D (It could always be non-English versions!) I approve of the James Bond 100%, and I don't know the second canon, but I can only tell that the icon with the whole other character in it is manipped, not the others. xD

I rec them all. :D The Broken Earth trilogy by N.K. Jemisin is one of the best things I've read in the last five years. Emphatic rec, that one!

The other series is very popular (not only because it's written by Seanan MacGuire, who is a fangirl and thus her books are popular in LJ/DW circles). I like it for its creativity and interesting magic. There are a lot of books in the series, and I'm - as always - very far behind. I've read eight of them or something? The series is called October Daye, like the main character. I also rec it.


As to the manipping, I didn't manip the first three (much), only lightened her hair a little and darkened his skin tone a bit - and Taika Waititi really just looks like that on OFMD. :)

Of the second three, I manipped two. The first icon is of Felicia Day in Elf costume, even though you can't see her ears so I didn't actually have to do anything there. ;) The second one needed a seal skin coat collar and very tanned skin and mottled grey-brown hair, all of which I gave him. The third one has cat eyes and tabby stripes in his hair. He also, I think, would need a mustache, but I was too lazy to give him one in the end.


The second canon I manipped Zhu Yilong into is Back To The Future. It's a film trilogy from the 80s/90s. Very much still worth watching (at least the first two). It's one of my fave movie series. It's all about time travel. Both Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd are excellent in it.
