A round I enjoyed a lot when I took part in it back in the day. I have been waiting for our round 17 to come around so we can now play it, too!
In this case, I couldn't copy the original challenge post, because *there are a lot of them* (26 in total) ! So we're just lucky that all of those original posts still exist. Let's go on an adventure!
This challenge was originally posted to

Challenge Post by
absolutelybatty [ special kudos to them for the complex theme! <3<3<3 ]

Finally, the themes post is finished! Sorry for the delay. I didn't realize this would take as much time/effort as it ended up taking. At any rate, you can get started below. I hope you have a lot of fun, and remember, the whole choose your own adventure story is just for fun!
Some disclaimers:
1. This story is entirely written by me [absolutelybatty], and I apologize, as always, for being ridiculous. And for the fact that I am nowhere near a professional writer.
2. The is very tongue-in-cheek at some points, but all communities mentioned or alluded to are done so with the utmost fondness. There is zero malicious content here.
3. All similarities to makers, active and non, is entirely coincidental.
To play this round, you’ll be taking on the role of an under-the-radar icon maker embarking on their next great icon adventure in the magical land of Turbo-Rumble! Are you ready? Then let’s begin!
Congratulations, Hero, on beginning your icon journey! You have been waiting for this day for quite some time, and you haven’t slept well at all as a result. Tossing and turning well into the dawn has left you with dark circles under your eyes, but it hasn’t dampened your enthusiasm. Today is the day you set out on a brand new icon adventure. You’re going to find your iconning fortune, you just know it!
The wide world of Turbo-Rumble stretches out in front of your eyes, beckoning you onward. But wait, which way will you venture?
In front of you is the inviting horizon. Will you follow the path forward, face turned toward the sun, to see where it takes you? Of course! It’s the only way to go! [JUMP LINK: BRING ME THAT HORIZON!]

ORIGINAL RULES - for reference only
Check out the primer [absolutelybatty] wrote for the round that hopefully covers some of the basic questions people might have.
NEW RETRO_ICONTEST RULES - mandatory
As stated in the original rules, you must click your own personal path through the adventure, which will give you six themes in total. You can then make one icon per theme.
The main difference to the original turbo_rumble is that we're not actually doing a rumble (a specific kind of "last icon maker standing"). We just make some icons and enjoy the process. (And the story. :D)
-> you don't have to make all six icons. minimum 1 icon. maximum 6 icons this time.
-> please start at the beginning of the story and make the icons in order. I.e. the first theme - for everyone - is SHINE. you have to make that one, and continue from there.
-> there is no voting. (no rumble or lims rules at all, in fact)
-> submit your icons as a new entry into the community. tag your post with round number and your username (or ask me to tag it for you).
-> please state the theme for each icon in your post (since we're all going to have different themes).
-> you can put all six icons into the post this time, no need to cut-tag or link to your journal (but if you want to link anyway, you can - your journal post must be unlocked).
-> submit the URLs along with your icons. I'll put all six per person into the roundup post this time.
-> make an effort to leave positive feedback on other participants' posts. <3
-> read the full rules here in our userinfo.
This challenge will run for four weeks. There is no voting. I will make a roundup post containing up to5 6 icons per person after every challenge. Challenges run roughly mid-month to mid-month every month.
Deadline for round #17: Friday, August 16th 2024 your end-of-day
